The Iphone has been a huge technological advancement in today's society. Who needs buttons when you can just touch the screen and get everything done? Men seemed to appreciate this new technology when it first come out much more than women, but recently women have begun to show more interest in the Iphone. Taylor Hatmaker's article, Why the Iphones Success Has Women To Thank, tells us of why the Iphone is such a big hit among the females.
The first thing Hatmaker states is how the Iphones leading contender, the Android, is more directed toward men with it's commercials containing things "from fighter jets to dusty cowboys to something pretty closesly resembling the Eye of Sauron." All these things are more masculine than feminine. This could contribute to the huge male Android ownership.
On the other hand, Iphone has made it clear that they want everybody to purchase their phone. Hatmaker tells in her article about how "Apple appeals to some basic, very human needs. We'd all like a device that a) makes our lives easier and b) connects us to the people who matter." Apple definitely has hit the spot in showing that the Iphone is for everyone. Their sales even show it, the Iphone definitely has an equal amount of women and men who own it. Not just a sole male owner.
Lastly, Hatmaker tells of her own experiences with both phones. She loved the Android, but she couldn't fit it in to her pocket. The Iphone on the other hand, she was able to carry on her person easily. She explains "ideally we'd all like to fit the damned thing in our pockets." This seems to be what lots of women want, they hate bulky things. The slim Iphone has generally stayed the same size through out its years and it shows that women prefer it over the competitors.
So is the Iphone really better than its competitors, or are we as a society just following a trend? Who knows, but the Iphone definitely has the attention of todays women, almost 50% of them to be exact. The next time you try to prove technology is for men only, just remember that women know their Iphones like the back of their hand.

Apple's I-phone on release seemed to be popular among men and the "tech-savvy." Recently though, it seems to have become a women's phone. Recent studies show that men have moved on from I-phones, but women prefer it. I-phones have now become part of a women's style and a way to make the look more glamorous than other women. John V.'s article, why do women prefer using the Iphone over other smartphones?, helps us understand this new trend.
In John V.'s article, we are told that women prefer this phone because "it is just the right size for [them]." Men usually do not care for size, we just want the the awesome phone that can do everything. Women seem to want the Iphone for it's accessibility. Either way, Apple seems to move it's product more toward the ladies, since it's size and shape have changed recently to be thinner and more colorful. Sounds more feminine to me.
John V.'s article, also states the women like the Iphone because "there are just so many cool looking cases and accessories for it." Men could careless if their phones look good, as long as it works, it is good for use. Men usually have one case,only used for protecting their phone. When you ask a women how many cases they have for their Iphone, typically you will get an answer of between 2-5. So that their phone matches their style for the day.
Lastly, John V.'s article states that women use the Iphone because it is "simple and easy to use." Most phones are easy to use, but Apple's Iphone seems to easiest to women for some reason. Iphone's are becoming much easier to use, but so are other smart-phones. The interface is what makes it more appealing to women. The dashboard that controls everything can be brought up with the flick of a finger now and easy, apparently, is what women like.

Katy Hopkin's web article "10 Steps to Picking the Right College" at US News, helps inform the college ready piece of society on how to make a huge decision in their life, which college should I chose?
Hopkin's second point tells us that we should "make an extended list of pros and cons" and "several aspects of college... numerically [ranked] by importance to you." The thought behind this is brilliant! What better way, being weighted by these steps, to start a search for a college than to be looking by importance of the aspects that college you dream of going to has? This should be required before students even begin looking at colleges!Then students, daunted by the vast number of colleges out there sending them admission letters and scholarship applications, can narrow down what they want out of their college tremendously.
Another step in Hopkin's article is to focus on our endgame. Hopkin pulls in a family's mother to bring out this point, "my husband, the logical one, would say 'Think about why you're going, and make the best decision for where you want to be four years from now.'" This is very important to making a decision on college, for it is the reason we go to college in the first place. Our future, leaning on this very part of our life, depends on what you can grab while you are in college. With the future in mind, this should narrow your decision down even more!
Lastly, Hopkin's last step tells us to not procrastinate! She uses another speaker, Coplon, InsideTrack's reporter, to give insight on this point; "What you see is: 'It's a difficult decision, so I'm going to put it off.'" Very important also when deciding on a college. If you do not give yourself the appropriate time, you will most definitely be stressed and give yourself many unnecessary headaches. So start early!
Many students today struggle with making college decisions, including people even I know. These steps are all very important because they will contribute to a huge decision and carve the rest of the path of your future. If all students were to follow Hopkin's ten-step article, then college decision making would be so much less of an gravel path and much more of a paved road.
Will this decision ever be easy for us? Probably not, even after following the steps, but can we make it easier on ourselves? That we can and very well should, for who does not love to make the easy decisions in life?

In Elizabeth Stark's commentary on "U.S. Kids Need Computer-Science Education" at USA Today, she informs society of the ever demanding need of computer-science education and how it is affecting our overall educational standings throughout the world.
Beginning her commentary, Stark immediately states how "Estonia recently announced that it is teaching all first graders how to code." This shows how far ahead, or how far behind Estonia we are. If first graders in Estonia are already learning to code, write computer programs and applications for a computer, on a computer, and in our generation adults can barely search the web, then we may have a problem keeping up-to-par in education.
Later, Stark then tells us a startling statistic: "By 2018, there will be nearly three times as many job openings requiring computer science knowledge than qualified applicants." Three times!? That is a scary amount of unoccupied jobs, that will not be able to be filled by our country unless we step up our education in computer science. Computer science is an important part of our education to have today, since the modern world is beginning to be ruled by computer technology.
Nearing the end of her commentary, Stark states lastly that, " we're at a crossroads as a nation....and we have a choice between two futures. Future A is one in which everyone has basic code literacy and is empowered to build the future. Future B is one in which only an elite few know how to interact with the system, and the rest remain powerless." Currently, our nation is heading towards Future B, since we always have to call a maintenance man to fix our computers.
Even in our school, the high school right here in Batesville Arkansas, our computer science education is very limited. I feel like here in my school I have limited access to any kind of computer knowledge. Any knowledge I wanted to gain I had to teach myself. Coding is one of the many subjects I would have loved to learn during my high school career, as I am sure many others would have also.
So, will our nation begin to change to Future A, or continue down the path to Future B? I suppose that would be up to all of us as a society, now wouldn't it be?

CNN reporter Vince DiFiore, a former band student, in his article "the importance of music education in schools" reveals how musical education is great for high-school students.
High-School is hard for new students, especially when they move from other states. Though it is hard the first couple of days, band students have an easier time achieving the status of fitting in. DiFiore tells of a one of friends, who also was a former band student, who "lived in three states" and how his friend, by "joining the marching band in each unfamiliar place helped connect to his high school experience." Band does help on a social status and relieve a little stress, as DiFiore tells about his friend, "it made a comfortable what could have otherwise been an alienating experience." Being accepted is a step in creating a good learning environment to help school education and increase what a school can teach you.
Not only does band help socially, joining band also gives you other skills! If you are in the marching band, a more hardcore version of band, you do get a sufficient amount of exercise, and on top of that you also learn: good "memorization" techniques, "eye-hand coordination and good...posture." Of course their are other ways to gain these skills, but while you do it you are being "exposed to centuries of our rich cultural heritage" and while you are in band you also are gaining a "greater language capacity" from being exposed to the Latin words that all music uses.
"Students in high school music programs have higher test scores and cognitive development. A U.S. Department of Education found that those who reported in instrumental music over the middle and high school years show significantly higher levels of mathematics proficiency by grade 12" states DiFiore. This shows that music not only helps fulfill the goals of an education, but gives you a life long skill of being able to understand the music you listen to better. Band is great for students who love music and want a greater education!
High school band is great for all students! It has many purposes and can help you in many areas through out your high school life, so why not just pick up an instrument and hop in? It certainly helps you appreciate music better and your high school education will be fulfilled better and the facts prove it!
